Destiny
The next thing I know, I open my eyes feeling a prick of a needle being extracted from under my skin. I spasmodically sat up and hit my head on the nurse. She was leaning over my bed, taking out the needle. I lay back down in pain. After everything stops spinning, I sit back up and the nurse is leaving the room rubbing her forehead.
“Sorry! Wait! Where am?” I stop calling to the nurse because I notice all my things are gone. All I have on are my boxers. My belongings are gone. “What the hell!?” I whispered to my self in anguish. I stood up and fell flat on my back. “I must still be a little dizzy,” I said sitting up rubbing my head. I stood up determined to get some answers. I ran out of my room in my underwear through the wall illusion and into the main room. “Where am I! Where is everyone else! What are these, walking blenders!?” I yelled running across the main room up to an android. “What’s with all the white!? Could you giants get more boring? How about getting some color in this joint!?” I called frustrated searching for words.
I must have looked insane, a man flying out of the wall in only underwear screaming in a foreign language. Well, they must have thought so, because the robot I ran up to touched me on the shoulder and an electric shock ran through my body. “Not again . . .” I muttered passing out in a wilted heap on the floor.
Once again I am awakened, but this time to my approval there was no pain. I was back in the room with the bed. I opened my eyes to peer up at one of the most enchanting women I had ever seen. She wasn’t as tall as the others, I’d estimate 10 feet tall. She was a brunet with deep yet bright blue eyes. She had shaken me awake. “Are you him?” I thought that she was perfect. “You speak English too!?” I said awestricken. “Yes, very well too if I might say so. I’m Dee hes tai nai.” “In English please!”“In the ancient tongue, I guess, it would be . . . the word for fate or destiny. I’m what you would call a language expert.” “Since your not speaking whatever that was I-,” I said. “Its called Kilan,” she informed. “Kilan, whatever! I need some answers. First, what do you mean by that? ‘Are you him’?” I asked confused. “Their leader?” she replied. “What do you mean, ‘they’?” I asked. “The surface drifters we found in the cave?”
“Who is ‘we’?” I asked. “We are the Last Resistance. The big guys that brought you here, our muscle, our Enforcers. Now answer my questions,” she declared. “Yes I’m the leader.” I answered.
“What do you mean by ‘The Last Resistance’?” “The last human resistance against the Zero,” she answered. “The Zero?” I asked. “Wow you really aren’t from here are you?” “Don’t think so, where are we!? “The city of Metalstride, in the resistance hospital. ” “Earth?” I asked confused. “Of course, where else would you be.”
“Impossible!” I said confounded.
“What’s your name?” she asked me looking at a black clip board. “My name is David but in the ‘ancient tongue’, David.” I replied sarcastically. “Ha, ha.” Destiny mouthed in distaste. Looking around the room frustrated, “Where are my clothes and stuff?” “Your belongings are all here.” Destiny pointed to the side table. Where the needles were once floating my clothes and survival supplies were hovering. She picked up my rifle off of the top of the floating pile. “What is this for?” she said examining the gun. I threw on my pair of jeans. “That my lady, is a twenty-two caliber, semi-automatic, covert, sniper rifle and a digital-zoom scope. The best most accurate protection available.” I informed, taking it from her hand and lashing it onto my back. “This rifle was my fathers and his fathers before that. Its my only family heirloom. But I mostly use these Nine millimeters.” I said putting on my side holsters. “Odd.” She commented. “Why all the protection?” “Where I come from we’re fighting a war. I’d be a fool to travel with no protection.” I replied. “What are you protecting?” Destiny asked. “Freedom.” “Are you from ‘ehmi tee ahl es tee ar I dai’?” “Where, no I’m from earth.” I replied confused.
“Where are my friends?” I asked. “They’re already waiting for you. They won’t talk to me though. They say they want to see you first,” she said. “Take me to them,” I commanded. After getting dressed and putting on my shades I followed Destiny to the main desk outside my room.
All of the others were there. “How you doing?” I asked the crew. “Great! I trust em`.” Axel said stretching and yawning. “They knocked me out with some strange acupuncture.” Dr. McAllister said. “Yeah,” everyone else said, “same here.” “That was merely to keep you cooperative and to let you guys get some rest,” Destiny informed, “the surface world can be exhausting.”
“Guys . . . This is Destiny, and she is our translator. If you haven’t noticed, they don’t speak English here.” “Yeah we’ve all met her. Say, what did you mean by English being an ‘ancient language’?” Gig asked Destiny. “About eight-hundred years ago the man converted all languages into one; to bring all humans together.” she said. “Why did they need to bring us all together?” “In attempt to defeat the Pri. Where have you been?”
