It Was Dead
“Do you guys hear that,” Gig asked with a wide-eyed freeze. A faint, deep growl was heard through the incoherent chanting of the crowd. This had a sort of metallic twisting to it. I handed the pouch of fruit punch to Solo. He stared up at a building with a nervous shaking of his hand. With Gig looking up with the same distaste I figured there were more enemies to fight. I bent down and put on my knapsack and drew my pistols. I turned around to see something to make the strongest stomach turn on end and twirl.
The monster I killed with a shot to the head was back from the dead. It stood perched on the roof of a building staring at us with a sinister smirk. “Let’s get him before he does us in!”  “Sounds good to me Dave,” Axel agreed. “Are you guys insane? Do you know what he could probably do with those razor talons,” quaked Gig? “Umhm, I saw it kill two other Prisoners. I guess you have to ‘dispose’ of them properly then they come back.” I informed as we closed the distance between the ferocious creature.
The taller of the two foreign Prisoners took up with his gun on his shoulder. With a loud, Kilan command the metal of the weapon twisted and clicked, folding out into a very large metallic tube. The man’s tall, frail, empty body could barely support the bulky apparatus.  The dragon creature that was perched up on the wall leapt off the building and into the gray air. He waved his hand over a red small red light on the side of the tube mounted on his shoulder. He waved and I heard a high pitch ‘BEEP’. With a puff of blue smoke, a blur shot from the barrel toward the monster. The monster bobbed and darted around the stadium as the heat-seeking rocket twisted throughout the sky hot on its trail. We stood awestricken as the chase went about the stadium. “I gotta get me one of those,” Solo whispered as he drooled in amazement.
The monstrosity of a bird swooped and dove around as a blue trail pursued it. Drop low, then skyrocketing up through the dim light. The dragon slowed to allow the chasing rocket to gain some speed, then spun in midair diving back to the ground. It widened its gaping jaw and a blaze of fire flowed down toward the ground. Sparing no time to let it burn out, the bird glided to the right. This left the rocket to seek the nearest heat source. The fire was the new target of the explosion. In a heap of blue and orange oblivion the monster was free once more.
Meanwhile the others and I found refuge in the shadow of the other monster who still lied dead in a puddle of blood and oil. This allowed Gig and I to get a better look at the anatomy of the enemy. “Yeah, these guys are definitely mechanical. It looks like under these feathers, they are more or less half robot,” Gig said confident in his analysis. “Yeah but why would anyone create these creatures,” I asked? “They seem like a good weapon.” “Yes, their mechanical half seems to allow them to live on after the brain dies. That is why this guy is still after us,” Gig told us.
The dragon found our hiding place and now on for a real fight. It began a low gliding charge about five feet off the ground. “I got this. Just like this guy,” Axel said as he loaded his shotgun with his last couple rounds. With a ‘ka-click’ he locked the gun and aimed at the charging creature. He rang off four rounds with deadly precision. The monster seemed to be able to dodge every shot with grace. It still came at us, growing closer and closer.
The shorter, more diffident of the two strange Prisoners. Ran toward the deadly bird screaming at the top of his lungs. The crowd went silent. He slid under the charging bird as a baseball player slides to second. He quickly got his bearings with his foreign weapon. While the bird’s backside was to him, he launched an arcing stream of blue electricity engulfing the enemy. The bird lost life as it tumbled to the ground. Its speed let it slide in the dirt for a long distance nearly hitting us. We all stood in shock as the creature skidded in a cloud of dust until it stopped about two yards from me. The silent pause of the crowd was ended with an uproarious.
The large heap of the monster lifted its wing. “Oh no not again! Your goin` down big guy,” Solo hollered to the creature as it attempted to repair itself! He ran to it drawing his M1A Socom16. With a steady eye and confident hand he blasted the crap out of it. Blowing ample wounds in its thick skin with every blast. It was dead.
